HOUSTON – Young artists from across Texas auctioned their artwork Sunday at the 2016 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo School Art Auction.
Brandon Leal of Pasadena Independent School District exhibited the Grand Champion Work of Art painting, "Comradery Like No Other," selling for $185,000. Jim Winne said he bought the artwork because he used to participate in rodeos when he was younger.

"I think it’s one of the best I’ve ever seen," Winne said. "Maybe that’s just because of my connection with it. These kids are incredibly talented and they took on a challenge coming to this big show."
The Reserve Grand Champion Work of Art, "The Entertainer," painted by Lucy Chen, 16, from Katy Independent School District, was bought for a new Show record of $220,000. Lucy said the painting was inspired by Flame the Clown, a member of the Show’s Speakers Committee.
"We know the value of the money we spend here [at the Rodeo]," buyer Paul Somerville said. "These kids are coming to the Super Bowl of rodeos, and we want to continue to give them the incentive to do so."
