Houston Food Bank receives major donation

37,000 pounds of food donated

HOUSTON – Every day, children around the United States and in Texas wake up hungry. That's why Tyson Foods and LULAC have teamed up to donate more than 37,000 pounds of meat to the Houston Food Bank.

"It is amazing. It's going to be a base for a lot of meals and feed a lot of people," said John Kreger, director of food resources for the Houston Food Bank.

This gift couldn't come at a better time. Child poverty is rising sharply in Houston and the surrounding areas. Some experts predict that one in three kids go without dinner in our city each day.

"There are 66,200 people right now that are hungry," Kreger said.

So the big name food giant and the local prominent Latino group joined forces in order to provide food to those who need it.

They're calling it their hunger campaign because they feel no one deserves to go hungry, especially children.
