Part-Time Meteorologist

KPRC 2 is looking for a Part-Time Meteorologist who leads with digital and understands that weather in Houston doesn’t follow a broadcast clock. This role requires someone who can shift gears — from a practical, grounded explanation of a rainy commute to an urgent, aggressive live presence during a severe weather event — and knows the difference matters.

You’ll work across platforms, with digital and social as your primary output, contributing to linear broadcasts as scheduled.

What You’ll Do:

  • Produce weather content daily for KPRC2.com, the app, and social platforms — forecasts, graphics, short-form video, and real-time updates
  • Deliver clear, useful guidance on everyday weather disruptions: flooding risk, fog, oppressive heat, dense humidity — the conditions that affect how Houstonians move through their day
  • Escalate appropriately and urgently when conditions warrant — severe thunderstorms, tropical threats, flash flood emergencies — with a presence that commands attention and drives action
  • Collaborate with the weather team on storm coverage, filling in on-air as needed
  • Build and maintain a digital audience through consistent, trustworthy, platform-native content
  • Monitor conditions outside scheduled shifts and communicate proactively when the situation demands it

What We’re Looking For:

  • AMS or NWA certification, or in progress
  • Broadcast meteorology experience — TV, digital, or both
  • Strong command of forecast tools and graphics systems (Baron experience a plus)
  • Fluency on social — you understand how weather content performs across platforms and you adapt accordingly
  • A communication style that adjusts to the moment: calm and practical for routine weather, direct and urgent when it counts
  • Willingness to flex availability — this role includes nights, weekends, and on-call expectations during active weather

Why KPRC 2

Houston’s weather is serious. Flooding, heat, tropical systems, severe storms — this market demands meteorologists who respect what the atmosphere can do. We cover all of it, and we cover it aggressively. This is a role for someone who wants to do real weather work, not just fill a slot.

KPRC 2 is Houston’s NBC affiliate and a Graham Media Group station.
