One caller said they heard about 10-15 shots fired, and another caller said there were two people seen firing weapons. While officers were en route, they were flagged down by witnesses and found just one shooter pointing his gun at the driver’s side of another vehicle.

Commands were given to drop the gun, and the shooter turned his attention toward one of the deputies, that’s when 2 officers shot him. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez confirmed on X, formerly known as Twitter, that the gunman died from his injuries.

Immediately, Asst. Chief Diaz said deputies examined the gunman and rendered aid. Homicide investigators were called to the scene as was the internal investigations team to ensure proper protocol was taken.

The two officers have been placed on administrative leave, also per protocol. The shooter has only been identified as a Hispanic man. The deputies have not been identified, but one is said to have 5 years of experience on patrol, while the other has less than a year.
