Woman, 18, struck by vehicle, killed while walking along highway in Baytown

BAYTOWN, Texas – Baytown police are investigating after an 18-year-old died along a highway early Tuesday.

Police said Madison Nicole Creagh was driving a truck along Highway 99 when she somehow got stuck in a ditch. She got out and began walking near Texas Highway 146 Business, where she collapsed.

A driver stopped and called 911.  The driver positioned her car toward oncoming traffic to protect the victim, but it did not help. Creagh was struck by a car.

"One vehicle actually did strike the victim; the rear tire did catch the victim's body.  It wasn't multiple times as what was assumed," said Det. Luzette Watkins, Baytown Police Department.  "We do understand she got out of the vehicle, out of the ditch and was walking.  Why she collapsed, we're not sure."

The driver who struck the victim told police he thought a drunk driver was sitting in the middle of the road and swerved.  He is not facing any  charges.

An autopsy will determine if Creagh died when she collapsed or when she was struck.
