SANTA FE, Texas – A mother researched gunshot wounds on WebMD.com before taking her 14-year-old son to the hospital after he had been shot, and she may be facing charges police said Wednesday.
A 14-year-old boy was at his home in the 10400 block of 27th Street in Santa Fe with 23-year-old Jesse Rodriguez, police said. Rodriguez was playing with a gun when he pulled the trigger and shot the boy in the upper thigh on Tuesday night.
Surveillance video from the home showed Rodriguez firing the gun, police said. He was charged with one count of injury to a child with intent to commit serious bodily injury and was being held on $151,500 bond.
Instead of calling 911, the boy's mother researched gunshot wounds on WebMD.com. She took him to the Mainland Medical Center about seven hours after the shooting.
"I'm horrified about what happened," said Sherleen, a neighbor who declined to give Local 2 her last name.
Sherleen said she has had several issues with her neighbor.
"They have vicious dogs that go loose and there's a lot of traffic that is like only there 30 seconds and leaves," she said. "This is a terrific neighborhood. There's only one blight on it and it's that house right there."
The boy was transferred to Memorial Hermann, where he was listed in stable condition.
His mother may be charged with injury to a child by omission.
