Woman beaten during robbery in Galleria parking garage

HOUSTON – A Houston woman says she is thankful to be alive after being attacked and robbed in the parking garage of the Galleria Mall.

The incident happened at around 9 p.m. on Tuesday.

Olga, who asked that her last name not be used because her attackers haven't been caught, was in the yellow parking garage near the Kona Grill on Westheimer Road.

She was parked and placing a to-go order when the robber came up from behind her.

"I (fell), I (fell) down in my car," she said. "I found myself inside my car."

Olga was hit in the back of the head with her car door and then the attacker repeatedly punched her.

The married mother of two suffered a concussion.

"After that, I cried," she said.

The man stole her purse and phone charger and then left.

According to Olga, there were several other men waiting nearby in a getaway car.

She didn't get a good look at her attacker and doesn't remember what kind of vehicle the men were in, but said it was a newer model.

Olga and her family describe themselves as asylum seekers from the Ukraine.

They have been in Houston for two years and said they never expected to become crime victims.

The Houston Police Department is investigating this crime and Olga hopes her attacker and his accomplices are caught.

"I'm glad I'm alive because I thought they could kill me," Olga said.
