Tiger found wandering in Conroe 'having fun' exploring new home

The "friendly" female tiger found wandering in a Conroe neighborhood has found a new home. The animal was taken to the International Exotic Animal Sanctuary on Wednesday.

Animal caretakers say she is having fun exploring her new home and will be bonding with animal behaviorist Louis Dorfman and staff members in the coming days.

The tiger made national headlines after it was found wandering around Coral Cove Pass on April 21. It was wearing a leash and a collar when it crossed paths with a couple walking in the area.

The owner of a tiger, Cody Tibbitts, came forward and was hoping to reunited with his cat.

Shortly after Tibbitts was found and lost custody of the animal, a man tried to steal the tiger from the Conroe Animal Shelter in the 400 block of Sgt. Ed Holcomb Boulevard just after 5:30 a.m. Wednesday. Police said the person was not able to get into the area where the tiger was being kept.

"I think it had to do with an animal rights group. They'll go to any extent to release the animal into the wild," he said.

The tiger is now in good hands.

Teacher accused of attacking, choking student over piece of trash

An HISD middle school teacher is accused of violently assaulting an eighth grade student who he felt was ignoring his orders to work and, instead, threw away a piece of trash.

Errick Dewaune Waters is charged with injury to a child. He declined to talk to the media, citing instructions from his attorney.

The incident happened at Edison Middle School on April 22.

According to court documents, after breakfast was over, Waters told the students to begin their assignments.  One of the students got up and walked to the front of the class to throw away some trash, and Waters told him once again to sit down and begin working.

The student has difficulty speaking and understanding English, and did not respond immediately, investigators said.

Story takes new twist after teen's body found

Abigail English led a troubled life. At age 15, she had spent most of it in foster care in California.

When she was finally reunited with her biological family in Shoreacres last year, friends say the relationship remained rocky.

She lived with her maternal grandmother in Shore Acres. When Abigail disappeared March 22, her grandmother reported she had run away.

Three weeks later, concerned that no one seemed to be looking for her, Abigail's teachers at La Porte High School called Texas EquuSearch for help

"We'd gone to the police station, we'd talked to grandma, just a dead end. There just wasn't anything else being done as far as we could see," said Love Tay, school psychologist.

EquuSearch volunteers found human remains believed to be Abigail's near her grandmother's home. As yet there has been no positive identification or ruling as to how she died.
