Restaurant Report Card: Several restaurants store seafood at dangerously high temperatures

Food temperature troubles for Pappas Seafood, China Border, Black Labrador Pub

HOUSTON – It's one of Houston's most famous and beloved seafood restaurants, but Pappas Seafood on the North Freeway was written up by health inspectors for storing salmon, catfish, tilapia, crawfish and calamari at dangerous temperatures.

The law said they must be kept no warmer than 41 degrees.

At the China Border, also located on the North Freeway, the managers were chastised for temperature troubles. Sushi rolls, shrimp, crab meat, chicken and potato salad were all found stored at unsafe temperatures.

There were more temperature issues at the Black Labrador Pub at 4100 Montrose. The restaurant was dinged for keeping hamburger, sliced turkey, chicken and cheese all above safe temperatures in the cold hold unit.

Inspectors spotted an employee at the Burger King in the 9600 block of Bissonnet using bare hands to handle food.

Roaches were crawling around in the dry storage area and in the sink area at Best Donuts on South Braeswood near Hillcroft.

Cafe Layal in Midtown tossed 500 pounds of ice found to be contaminated by pink slime. The ice machine was quarantined.
