Walmart supercenter in new development near Galleria area

HOUSTON – A huge shopping center is heading to the Galleria area.

A Walmart supercenter will anchor the development on South Rice Avenue and Westpark Drive, just north of Bellaire and southwest of the Galleria.

Construction on the brand-new Shoppes at Uptown Crossing is moving at a fast clip.

The 3.5-acre shopping center will feature a giant Walmart and a 32,000-square-foot micro center.

Along with a Towne Place Suites hotel and several new restaurants including El Pollo Loco, Chick-Fil-A Jack in the Box and Starbucks.

The addition of a new Walmart, already one of the world's largest employers, is expected to add more than 100 new jobs in the area.

No word on when construction of the sparkling new retail center will be complete.

Local 2's attempts to reach the marketers of this development capital retail properties went unanswered Monday afternoon.

This new center will come to one of Texas' most successful retail areas and will serve three of our most densely populated neighborhoods: The Galleria, West University and Bellaire.
