Waitress accused of stealing credit cards from customers

Woman says she was also drugged

HOUSTON – Dish Society is a trendy new restaurant in the 5700 block of San Felipe, not far from The Galleria area. A waitress who worked at the restaurant is now under investigation by the Houston Police Department, accused of stealing two customers' credit cards and going on a shopping spree at Target and I-Hop.

One customer claims before the theft, something was slipped into her drink -- something that made her dizzy and vomit.

Dish Society's owner, Aaron Lyons, told Local 2 surveillance video from inside the restaurant shows the waitress slip the stolen credit cards into her apron. He said he notified police as soon as he learned about the incident.

"We called the police and we want to see justice served to this particular individual," he said.

Lyons also said the waitress has since been fired and she only worked at the restaurant for two weeks.

Other customers who frequent this trendy new eatery said they were stunned to hear the news.

"I mean, I am totally shocked to hear that, totally shocked," said Veronica Porter. "The wait staff we interacted with seemed like really nice people, trustworthy and everything."

Lyons said this was an isolated incident. He said he has reviewed all the surveillance video and there is no evidence this waitress tampered with anyone's food or drinks.

"We've got everything in place to prevent this, but unfortunately somebody slipped through the crack," he said. "It's by no means a reflection of our business and the way we do business day to day."

Houston police said the customer who claims she was drugged did go to the emergency room to be checked out. It's unclear what, if anything, was in her system.

The case is still under investigation. No charges have been filed yet.
