UPDATE: Suspect shot, killed by HPD officer

HOUSTON – Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that left a man dead.

Houston police said someone at the Rama Apartments on Woodfair at Duchamp called 911 to report a disturbance after a man flashed a gun at the caller. It happened around 7:10 p.m. Sunday.

Neighbors told Local 2 that it all started inside an apartment where tenants buy beer. The man was involved in some sort of argument with someone inside that apartment when he flashed a gun.

When police arrived, the suspect was identified and officers were told he had a gun. When police officers told the suspect to take his hands out of his pockets, the suspect pulled out a gun.

Police then told the suspect to drop the gun, but instead, the suspect raised it towards officers.

At that time, police said Officer J. Medina discharged his weapon multiple times.

An officer at the scene told Local 2 that the suspect was shot four times in the chest and abdomen area.

The 28-year-old suspect was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital where he later died after undergoing surgery.

It's unclear if he lived at the apartment complex.

The man's name was not released.

As is customary in an HPD officer-involved shooting, the incident is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions, as well as the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
