Thousands without power across Houston area due to weather

HOUSTON – Thousands of Houston-area residents are without power as a storm moves into the area Monday afternoon.

As of 5 p.m. Monday, CenterPoint Energy is reporting more than 6,000 outages across Southeast Texas.

A large number of customers are without power in the west Houston area.

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 5 p.m. Monday covering mainly our northern and western counties: Austin, Brazos, Burleson, Colorado, Grimes, Montgomery, Polk, San Jacinto, Walker, Waller and Washington.

A Wind Advisory is also in effect until 9 p.m. Monday.

The Local 2 meteorologists say the main threat with Monday's severe weather will be hail and strong winds. Wind gusts could reach over 65 mph.
