HOUSTON - Even universities are not immune to copper theft.
After a power outage at the University of Houston, investigators determined it was due to a large amount of copper wire that thieves removed from the University Center construction site.
The center is undergoing an $80 million transformation.
Investigators found the entrance gate lock to the site was busted over the weekend, and then crooks took the copper.
Power crews have been working to repair the damage.
The University of Houston Police Department is investigating.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
