Thieves ambush, carjack guard for gun store break-in

Surveillance shows suspects who took weapons

SPRING, Texas – Deputies were looking for two men who ambushed and carjacked a security guard, and used his pickup truck to smash into a Montgomery County gun shop to steal weapons.

A security guard patrolling a strip mall on Sawdust Road and Budde Road stopped to help a man who appeared in distress around 12 a.m. Wednesday. The man was near a wooded area behind the strip mall building. Investigators said when the guard stopped, a second man emerged from the woods armed with a gun. They beat up the guard and held him at gunpoint, officials said.

They then stole his truck and used it to slam through the front glass of The Woodlands Tactical Law Enforcement Shooter and Supply store, deputies said. They got away with weapons and other merchandise.

The owner of the store, Ron Oestmann, said his store has security cameras. It showed the men smashing into the glass and then walking into the store.

Oestmann was frustrated after finding out what happened.

"There's no real security procedures to put in place other than put concrete barricades out in the parking lot so people can't drive in here. I mean that's pretty ridiculous," Oestmann said.

Deputies were reviewing the video to see if it can help them identify the suspects.

One suspect was last seen wearing a jacket and dark gloves. The other was wearing a bandanna over his face.
