When police arrived at the scene on Northfield Lane near Hempstead Highway, they were unable to convince the woman to come out of the house, so they called SWAT.Ā  Detectives said the woman discharged the gun several times but did not hit anyone.

After several hours of negotiations, SWAT used a battering ram to break in one of the house's windows.Ā  After they did that, police said the woman decided to come out -- still holding the gun.

Officers took her into custody and transported her to a psychiatric hospital for evaluation.

Her name was not released.
