Police investigating attempted kidnapping of child in East End

Houston police say the incident happened Thursday afternoon

HOUSTON – Police are investigating an attempted kidnapping of a child in Houston's East End.

Houston police say the incident happened Thursday afternoon in the 7300 block of Harrisburg Blvd. near S. 75th Street.

We're told the 12-year-old girl was walking home from summer school when a man approached in his car.

"He stopped and told me to get in the car, but I kept on walking," the girl told Local 2. "He stopped at the corner and asked me what my name was."

The girl kept walking, but the man eventually got out and was following her.

At about that time, her mom's boyfriend pulled up, saw the suspect and started chasing him.  The suspect escaped and police are still searching for him.

"Now I got to be there right on time, dropping her off and picking her up," said the victim's mom. "I don't trust nothing around here."

He is described as an African-American man in a gray v-neck t-shirt with blue Dickie work pants. He was driving a newer model black 4-door car, possibly a Chevy.
