HOUSTON – Organizers from the Texas Organizing Project gathered in southeast Houston Thursday to knock on residents' doors near Hobby Airport about the Southwest Airlines proposal.
Many in the community support the expansion by Southwest.

"We're long overdue in this area. We need to grow and I think we should be given the opportunity to grow," said Anna Hildebrand. "Southwest has every right to do that and I support it."
On Thursday, United Airlines released a report concluding that dividing Houston's international air service will result in a loss of 3,700 jobs and $295 million annually in the Houston region.
"It would be better for them and better for Houston overall to share passengers at Intercontinental -- to share traffic instead of losing economic activity and losing jobs in Houston," said Brian Znotins, a spokesman with United Airlines.
Southwest Airlines claims the expansion plan will create 10,000 jobs and inject $1.6 billion into the local economy.
The Houston City Council is scheduled to vote on the plan next month.
