Man shot in front of grandparents' home

Robert Gutierrez dies in driveway

HOUSTON – A man was shot and killed as he walked up to his grandparents' house in east Houston.

The shooting happened at 11:40 p.m. Tuesday in the 6900 block of Boyce Street near Lathrop.

When police arrived, they said they found the body of Robert Gutierrez, 24, in the driveway.

Gutierrez's grandmother saw the shooting.

"I just saw them guys get out of the car. One of the guys got out the car and shot him," Maria Rodriguez said.

Margret Gutierrez was at work overnight when she got the call that her son was dead.

"To learn that he was killed, shot by some guys in a car -- that they got into a confrontation," said Gutierrez.

Houston police said Robert Gutierrez had just been dropped off by his girlfriend when a car pulled up behind him.

"One individual was standing in the driveway. A car drove up and got into some altercation and the gentleman in the car pulled out a weapon, shot the victim multiple times," said W. Meeler with Houston Police Department.

The killer drove off.

Investigators were trying to figure out who would have wanted to kill the father of two young girls, a man loved by his family.

"Whoever did this, I know they are going to hear me on the news. It's better you come forward," said Gutierrez.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
