Man jumps off boat, accidentally drowns in Lake Conroe

Witnesses say 26-year-old man attempted to jump from top deck into water

CONROE, Texas – What started off as a fun time on the water turned tragic after a man jumped off a boat and drowned.

It happened around 8:40 p.m. Saturday in Conroe. According to the Montgomery County Precinct 1 Constable's Office, a group of 50 people rented a party barge with two decks from Just for Fun Rentals.

Witnesses told investigators 26-year-old Ross Lehmberg was attempting to jump from the top deck into the water. Instead, he smashed into the bottom deck before sliding into the water.

Several people on the boat then dove in after him, but were unable to find him.

At that point, deputies called the Precinct 1 Diving Team, who eventually found the man at around 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

Investigators said Lehmberg, who was a Texas A&M graduate, was with fraternity members when the accident happened.

Deputies said there is a chance alcohol may have been involved.
