HOUSTON – Two men were arrested after drug-fueled police chases on the city's south side, Houston police said.
The first chase happened around midnight in southwest Houston. Police tried to pull over a man in a Jeep driving erratically on the South Loop near Stella Link Road. He refused to pull over, so officers chased him.
He got off the freeway at South Braeswood Boulevard, ran several red lights and then crashed, detectives said.
The police officer on scene was hurt while trying to get through broken glass to get the suspect out of the vehicle. The officer had minor cuts.
The driver was not hurt. He was arrested and charged with evading and driving under the influence.
A second driver in southeast Houston is facing the same charges.
Police said he was high on PCP when he lead them on a slow-speed chase on Bellfort Avenue and Mykawa Road. They tried to pull him over, but he would not stop, investigators said.
Officers eventually boxed in his car on Telephone Road and Covern Street. He was arrested and taken downtown for processing.
PCP, also known as angel dust, was first used as a surgical anesthetics in the 1940s. It was shelved in the 1950s because of its side effects which include hallucinations.
