HCSO: Man steals car, robs store

Deputies search for thief, stolen maroon Saturn

HOUSTON – Deputies are looking for a man they said stole a car then robbed a dollar store.

Harris County sheriff's deputies said the man's day of crime began with a carjacking around 3:30 a.m. Thursday. Deputies said he stole a car from an apartment complex in the 15000 block of Ella.

Once he had wheels, investigators said the robber made his way to the Dollar General store in the 2900 block of Hirschfield near Aldine Westfield, which is about 10 miles away.

Wearing a mask, detectives said the robber stormed into the store and held up one of the cashiers as others looked on in fear.

Shapiro Meadows, a store employee, said he was working on something in the back office of the store when one of the customers darted in and told him there was a thief robbing it.

"I ran out the back. They were unloading their truck and I called the police," Shapiro said.

By the time he made it to a nearby HEB, investigators said. The crook had grabbed the cash from the register and was long gone, officials said.

"They said he had a T-shirt over his head and had gloves on him," Shapiro said.

While the victims couldn't see his face, they said they did see the maroon car he got away in. Investigators said the car is a 2002 maroon Saturn with Texas license plate number RZS-302.

Anyone with information is asked to give Crime Stoppers a call at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
