HOUSTON - Houston police have charged a man in the city's first fatal crash of 2014.

Officers say around 1 a.m. a Chevy pickup truck was speeding when the driver ran a red light and hit a white Mercedes at the intersection of Pierce and Milam in downtown Houston.

Police said a husband and wife were inside that Mercedes.

Authorities said the man died and the woman was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the pickup, 21-year-old Diego Baldemar Islas, and his passenger were also hurt and taken to the hospital.
