Burning SUV almost sparks apartment fire

Owner thinks fire started in the engine of the SUV

HOUSTON – Houston firefighters saved a northwest Houston apartment complex after a sport utility vehicle parked inches from the building caught fire.

The fire broke out around 10 p.m. Wednesday at the Vila Anita Apartments on Guhn Road and Grow Lane.

The fire burned the front end of the Nissan Xterra and scorched part of the apartment building. Crews were able to put the fire out before it did any real damage to the complex.

The owner of the SUV said he had just parked the car when it burst into flames. The owner believes the engine caught fire.

Arson investigators will make the final determination of a cause.
