18-wheeler jackknifes on I-10 near downtown

Driver will be cited for failing to maintain lane

HOUSTON – An 18-wheeler tied up traffic on I-10 near downtown Houston early Friday.

According to the Houston Police Department accident division, the driver was headed westbound about 3:30 a.m. when he took a curve too fast, hit a concrete barrier, spun out, and jackknifed.

The crash damaged the cab and the truck spilled more than 125 gallons of fuel on the road. The truck didn't spill the lacquer and fire hydrant fluid it was carrying.

Lanes were blocked for hours while the hazardous materials teams cleaned up the diesel spill.

The driver will be cited for failing to maintain a single lane, according to police.
