MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas – Four teenagers are in Montgomery County's Juvenile Detention Center after deputies said they broke into their neighbor's home and destroyed her property.
Elizabeth Suchors lived in the River Plantation subdivision off Cumberland Trail with her husband for years. The 74-year-old woman lost her husband five months ago, and has been staying with friends because she recently broke her hip. According to Precinct 4 deputy, while Suchors was away, she had some unexpected visitors.
Neighbors called 911 after they saw broken glass outside of the home and heard loud noises coming from inside.
"Deputies were already nearby so they arrived within seconds," said Constable Gene Deforest. "They saw that someone had broken in. Deputies found two teenagers inside, and two of them tried to run, but after a short pursuit they caught up with them. There were three boys and one girl. Three of them were 16-years-old and one was 15-years-old."
The teenagers broke pictures off the wall, broke the chandelier, smashed in the TV's and computers with a baseball bat and ruined family heirlooms.
"They also stole guns from inside of the home. I've been in law enforcement for 40 years and I've never seen anything like this," Deforest said.
Deputies arrested all four teens and charged them with burglary of a habitation. Two were charged with evading arrest. Residents in the community are stunned by the crime, because the teens live down the street from the victim.
"When I walked in the house I almost cried. I asked them why did they do it, and I got no answer. I think it was just kids out of school, looking for something fun to do," Deforest said.
