Teen accused of taking gun to school

HOUSTON – A ninth-grade student has been accused of taking a gun to school.

Joshua Burton, 17, has been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon.

Harris County Precinct 7 deputy constables said Burton took the gun to the Brazos School for Inquiry and Creativity, 6210 Rookin, on Tuesday.

According to the school's principal, another student went to the office and reported that Burton had the gun. The school's police officer was then notified and the gun was seized, the principal said.

"We have no reason to believe that the student involved had any intent to harm staff or students in the building," Principal Tiffany Rock said.

Detectives have not said why the gun was taken to the school.

Burton was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail with bond set at $5,000.
