HOUSTON – Syria's honorary consulate here in Houston has been ordered to close.
The order to close is being used as a message from the U.S. State Department to the Bashar al-Assad regime.

The embassy in Washington, D.C. and the consulate in Troy, Michigan, are also closing
This week marks the three-year anniversary of the uprising against Bashar al-Assad's rule.
Special envoy Daniel Rubinstein said, "We have determined it is unacceptable for individuals appointed by that regime to conduct diplomatic or consular operations in the United States."
