Suspected copper thieves caught with help of CenterPoint crew

3 people arrested, 1 injured after chase

HOUSTON – Three suspected copper thieves are in jail, all thanks to CenterPoint Energy crews who were responding to a power outage.

It happened at a shopping center off F.M. 1960 and Kuykendahl Road around 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

CenterPoint crews used a bucket truck to get on the roof and determined copper was being stolen.

They called sheriff deputies, who surrounded the shopping center.

Eventually the three suspects smashed through a glass door of one of the businesses in an attempt to get away, investigators said.

One was caught right away. The other two ran to Kuykendahl Road and tried to jump off an overpass onto F.M. 1960.

Both were arrested. One of the suspects was injured and had to be taken to the hospital.
