Stolen ambulances found at salvage yard

HOUSTON – Several stolen ambulances were found at a northwest Houston salvage yard on Monday.

The owner of Baytex EMS Ambulance, Vincent Olu, said eight ambulances were recently stolen from his company in the 6200 block of Westpark near the Southwest Freeway.

He said he put trackers on the remaining vehicles. On Monday morning, he said he found that another ambulance and two cargo vans had been stolen.

He said he tracked the vehicles to Texas Port Recycling in the 4400 block of Creekmont near T.C. Jester and called police.

Houston police said they arrested a man in connection with the thefts. His name has not been released.

Detectives said they got to the salvage yard before the ambulance and cargo vans were crushed, but the eight ambulances previously stolen were already destroyed.

Olu said that he saw at least 50 other crushed ambulances at the salvage yard. Police have not said if those ambulances had been reported stolen.
