Southeast Houston church repeatedly hit by vandals and thieves

HOUSTON – A small church in southeast Houston has been hit by vandals and thieves several times over the past 10 years.

"This is about the eighth or ninth time we've been vandalized, being in this particular location," said Pastor Darryl Barber if the Uncompromising Gospel Word Church.

Their two generators were stolen before Sunday's services. They rely on those generators to power their service. It's been that way for years since thieves stole their electrical wiring to the building.

Other times thieves have stolen building materials, hardware, ladders, paint and copper wiring.

The church has been here for almost 11 years, and the pastor was even assaulted at the church by a man with a knife, years ago.

"We've been persevering, we're just praying and hoping," said Barber.

The pastor is now asking for help, he estimates it will cost thousands to get more generators.
