Soldier's truck stolen, stripped weeks before deployment to Afghanistan

SOUTH HOUSTON, Texas – A Houston soldier whose truck was stolen from South Houston Wednesday was found completely stripped Friday. Now he's left to figure out how he will return to post to deploy to Afghanistan.

The pickup was found in the 1200 in the Shelby in Houston.

On Wednesday, Miguel De Leon and his family were at the Mi Tienda on Spencer Highway in the city of South Houston. After shopping, they returned to the parking lot to find Miguel’s 2006 black Chevy Silverado missing from the parking lot.

“I was looking around to see if I had accidentally parked somewhere else,” Miguel said.

He soon realized his truck and everything inside had been stolen.

“The car seats, the stroller and I had just bought new diapers and all these clothes for my children,” Miguel said.

To make matters worse, Miguel is supposed to return to post by this weekend so he can deploy to Afghanistan in a few weeks. He said now that his truck is gone he doesn’t know how he will make it back.

“I don’t understand why someone would do this,” Miguel said. “I know whoever stole it is going to take parts of it, but at the very least give me the things for my daughter back because that is going to count when I leave my family here.”

Anyone with information about the theft should call South Houston police.
