Shoppers make last-minute dash

Super Saturday promises big bargains

HOUSTON ā€“ Last-minute shoppers hit the stores Saturday in hopes of finding some stellar deals.

A recent Consumer Reports Survey found 68% of shoppers still haven't finished Christmas shopping.

Last-minute shopper Natalia Junkans said the trick to last-minute shopping is to show up early.

"There's nobody here," said Junkans from Memorial City Mall. "Everybody thinks it's going to be busy , but at 8 in the morning, no one is here. It's pretty quiet."

Toys R Us is doing their part to help the thousands of procrastinators. Officials with the store said they'll be staying open 88 hours until Monday at 10 p.m.

"That's great," said last minute shopper Arie Muzny. "I forgot to get something for my kids, and it's nice to be able to go early or anytime."

The National Retail Federation expects many shoppers to be searching for gifts up until Christmas Eve. Some shoppers said there are rewards for waiting.

"I'm here because this is like the new Black Friday," said shopper Jessica Bostic. "Stores are having ridiculous sales (that are) better than Black Friday."

Other stores like Target, Sears, Best Buy are also planning to extend their hours and sales over the weekend.

The National Retail Federation said 10% of people will wait until Monday, Christmas Eve, to complete their lists.
