WASHINGTON – The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee has postponed a meeting that had been scheduled for Tuesday to vote on the nominations of Ryan Zinke and former Texas Gov. Rick Perry to head the departments of Interior and Energy.

No reason was given for the delay, although the Senate has a shortened work-week because of a Republican retreat in Philadelphia later this week.

The committee said the postponement was in full effect until further notice, NBC News reported.

During his hearing before the committee last week, Perry -- the former governor of Texas who unsuccessfully challenged Trump during the Republican presidential primaries -- walked back controversial statements from his past campaigns promising to abolish the Energy Department, according to NBC News.

"I regret recommending its elimination," he said in his opening statement.
