Second woman claims cheer coach sexually assaulted her

Devincent Phillips

KATY, Texas – A second victim alleging she was sexually assaulted by a cheer coach in the Katy area has come forward.

The first allegations happened back in October 2013 when a Fort Bend County girl says sexual assaults were committed by her cheer coach, Devincent Phillips, when she was a student at Phillips' gym, Xcel Athletics, located in the Katy area.

The actual assaults occurred in Harris County, where the suspect lives and where the gym is located. The case is now pending at the Harris County District Attorney's Office.

Then on March 29, the Fort Bend Sheriff's Office says an adult woman contacted a detective concerning an incident when she was 15 years old. The woman told investigators Phillips, now 40, made unwanted sexual contact with her when she was attending Xcel Athletics.

The woman said she was assaulted at the gym, which was located in the 500 block of South Mason. After hearing about the first outcry, she decided to tell authorities what had happened to her at the gym.

Phillips was arrested Thursday and taken to the Harris County Jail under a $30,000 bond.

Detectives believe there still could be more victims. If you are a victim or you know any victims, you are asked to contact the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office at 281-341-3863 or Fort Bend County Crime Stoppers, Inc. at 281-342-TIPS (8477).
