HOUSTON – Firefighters rescued a worker who was stuck in a crane after it flipped while attempting to take down a circular Post Oak Boulevard sign in the Galleria area, officials said.
Crews were scheduled to do maintenance on the 7,000 pound circular sign on Post Oak Boulevard at Westheimer Road around 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
While attempting to bring the sign down, a larger crane was hoisted into the air and a man inside the basket was trapped.
The Houston Fire Department was able to rescue the man trapped and he was taken to the hospital with a back injury, officials said.
Authorities said one other person operating the crane was also taken to hospital for an unknown injury.
Post Oak Boulevard at Westheimer Road is currently closed while crews work on moving the crane.
An uptown official said the maintenance was associated to construction called the Post Oak Boulevard project.
According to the City of Houston's website, this project is designed to rebuild Post Oak Boulevard with designated bus lanes.
