Scary 2-alarm apartment fire contained with no injuries reported

HOUSTON – Houston firefighters spent Wednesday morning battling a massive apartment fire in southwest Houston.

It happened at around 10 a.m. at the Lodge Apartments at 7825 Corporate Drive.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy black smoke coming from a two-story apartment building.

The fire was upgraded to a second alarm at 10:13 a.m.

Firefighters contained the fire to six units.   Flames and smoke were seen for miles.

Resident Larisha Joubert and her roommate were just waking up and say if it wasn't for their dog, Marlee, they might not have made it out.

"It was very scary," Joubert said. "It looked like the whole building was just going to blow up. I smelled the fire, but I really didn't think much about it until I heard my dog scratching at the door real bad."

One resident said he saw a woman grab a young girl and jump from a second story.

The fire started in one of the second story units and investigators spent the day trying to figure out the cause.

The Red Cross is now assisting residents who were displaced by the fire.

There are no reported injuries.
