Robber threatens to set store on fire

PASADENA, Texas – A man threatened to burn down a convenience store during a robbery.

Pasadena police said a man with a gas can walked into the Big C Market in the 2500 block of Preston near Pine about 10 p.m. on Saturday.

The man walked over to a beer cooler and picked up a four-pack of Bud Light and a bottle of Clamato, police said. Detectives said the man then walked to the counter, put the merchandise down and poured gasoline on the floor.

"He started putting gas and turned on the lighter, that's why I got scared," clerk Felton Costa said.

The man flicked a lighter and told the clerk to give him money or he would burn the building down, investigators said.

Costa handed over about $100 and the robber grabbed the beer and left the store, police said.

There were a few customers inside the store at the time of the robbery. They all hid and no one was hurt.

The robber was described as Hispanic, in his 40s and about 5 feet 9 inches tall with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a Realtree camouflage jacket, a dark-colored shirt, light-colored jeans and black shoes.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
