Restaurant Report Card for Jan. 31: Roaches, rodent droppings

HOUSTON – Steak, seafood, sandwiches and dessert -- this week's Restaurant Report Card has a little something for every palate.

And, of course, we're going to tell you about the stuff that's not so palatable.

Texas Land & Cattle is known for its steak, and that's the way the general manager of the restaurant on the Katy Freeway near the North Dairy Ashford wants to keep it.

"It's your restaurant, so you're familiar with the health report … with what happened?" consumer expert Amy Davis said to the GM.

"I'm not going to make a comment," he replied. "I don't need a scene. I'm not going to make a comment."

"We don't want to make a scene either, but we want to give you an opportunity to comment about the violation," said Davis.

He didn't want to comment on the live roach inspectors said they found crawling on some dirty dishes at the dish machine.

At Baytown Seafood in the 9200 block of South Main, inspectors said there were three live roaches in the food prep area.

Old rodent droppings were found on the floor of the kitchen of the Park 10 Grill in the 1000 block of Highway 6 North, inspectors said.

The findings weren't so "great" at Great American Cookies at Willowbrook Mall. Inspectors said there were mouse droppings inside a cabinet under the slush machine.

Inspectors said there were no violations at Dowling Street Bar on Dowling Street and Subway at 6363 San Felipe. Both restaurants earn A's in this week's Restaurant Report Card.
