Property managers watch burglary in progress

Suspect caught after leading police on chase

HOUSTON – A man led police on a chase after a property management company called authorities to say that they were watching surveillance cameras of a burglar taking items from an apartment.

Around 10:30 a.m. Thursday, police were called to the 6300 block of Dumfries Street after the report of a burglary in progress. When police arrived, they spotted a man in a maroon colored car, who fit the description of the suspect.

When they tried to pull the car over, the driver took off. Police said 17-year-old Daleon Fontennet led them on a chase that ended in the 10000 block of Fondren.

Police said Fontennet used hedge sheers to prop open a window of an apartment and steal a television, a laptop computer and a purse. No one was home at the time of the incident, according to police.

Items from the home were found in the car and also fingerprints were on the stolen goods, according to police.

Fontennet is facing charges for burglary and evading arrest.

Police advise that the best ways to avoid becoming a burglary victim is to invest in an alarm system, use deadbolt locks on doors and keep your windows and doors locked.
