2 men rescue brother from raging house fire in northwest Houston

HOUSTON – Two brothers saved a third brother from their burning home in northwest Harris County Wednesday morning.

The fire started just after 6 a.m. at a home in the 800 block of Mansfield St.

"I was real scared, I've never been through anything like that before and that fire was hot," said Matthew Braxton, who lived in the home with his two brothers.

He says his brother, Michael Braxton, woke him up early this morning and told him there was a fire in his room.

"And we rushed into the room with some water from the kitchen, but the fire blazed up too high," Matthew Braxton said.

As the home continued to burn, both Matthew and Michael thought of their third brother, a diabetic, who was sleeping in another room.  They say he wasn't responding to their calls, so they didn't know if he was inside.

Due to the heavy flames, they had to exit the home, then bash open a back door to get to their brother's room.

"He was just about in a diabetic coma, so we couldn't wake him up and we had to drag him out," Matthew Braxton said.

Matthew sprained his ankle in the process, but he and Michael are just grateful they were able to get their sibling to safety.

"Lucky he had a door right by his bedroom that we could reach him at," Michael Braxton said.

"He wouldn't have made it," Matthew Braxton said.

Hours after the fire started, their home was still smoldering.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
