HOUSTON – Dozens of Houston families have been forced to live without electricity after their southwest Houston apartment complex lost power on Tuesday night.
According to tenants at the Villas of Hillcroft apartments in the 6300 block of Skyline, management has offered little help.
"I'm a diabetic. I need refrigeration for my medication. I also need electrical medical equipment. I'm sure there's plenty of families that need cold milk, water ... kids going to school, taking cold showers in the dark. It's really embarrassing. It's also sad," said one resident.
According to CenterPoint Energy, there is an electrical problem at the property. A transformer blew and part has been ordered.
Management said the power was expected to be restored Thursday night, but power remained out early Friday.
KPRC Local 2 checked with the city and found that the apartment complex has had no complaints and no violations in the past three years.
However, many residents said the past few days have been difficult.
"We got windows open and the doors open trying to get the air to flow through. The mosquitoes were horrible," said one resident.
Tenants strung electrical cords from the side of the complex with power to some of the 80 units that have been left in the dark. It was enough to run some fans in a few units until power is restored.
Centaurus Investments from Dallas owns the complex and six others in the Houston area. No one from the company returned KPRX Local 2's calls for a comment.
