SANTA FE, Texas – A driver denied accusations that he pointed a shotgun at a woman who was driving too closely behind him. Instead, he said it was his cane.
Danielle Lane said she was driving home north on FM 646 in Sante Fe on Monday when she came up to a slow-moving vehicle.
She admitted she may have started following the driver too closely, but what happened about a mile later is what got police involved.
"He slammed on his brakes and got out of his car and pointed a shotgun at me," said Lane. "He said, 'I will use this, get off my tail.'"
Lane said when the man turned at the next intersection, she followed and called 911.
Dan Williams, 66, was the man in the other car. He said that's not how it went down at all.
"I didn't pull no weapons," said Williams.
Williams said he doesn't like to drive fast these days. He said he was heading home when the woman pulled up behind him and started honking her horn for about a mile. Out of frustration, he said he stopped at a light and pulled out a cane, not a gun.
"I don't have a shotgun in the car," said Williams. "That was it. When it came out, it maybe looked like a weapon. I don't know."
When police arrived, they found the cane, but they said they also found a long rifle and two black powder pistols. It was enough to take Williams into custody and charge him with a felony.
