Police: Families of thieves wanted in Houston robbery

Accused of using their kids during store heists

HOUSTON – Surveillance video from a jewelry store in west Houston shows an entire family, children included, working to commit a crime, according to police.

Houston police said robbers are using their children to distract store clerks while they make off with the goods.

Security video from the Bawa Jewellers, 5710 Hillcroft, shows a few women and a baby entering the store.

The video shows one relative go behind the counter, using her long skirt to hide stolen merchandise, investigators said.

According to police, the family stole $1.5 million worth of jewelry.

A few months before, a different group of women hit a store on Post Oak, using the same tactic, according to police.

"We could see them from every angle stealing from us," said store owner Sherri Sakson.

Police said the robbery at the Post Oak store was very similar, however, investigators said they are not connected.

The group in the jewelry store heist is wanted for robberies in eight other states, officials said.
