Paramedics' cellphone stolen while tending to medical emergency

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – The Harris County Fire Marshal's Office is searching for a woman accused of stealing a cellphone from an ambulance van.

Authorities said paramedics were loading a patient into the back of the ambulance when Kali Hubbard, 26, approached them and asked to ride with the patient to the hospital. Paramedics said she wanted to ride in the back with the patient but they wouldn't allow her to. Instead, Hubbard had to ride in the front of the van.

According to authorities, Hubbard left the ambulance to gather personal information about the patients. Paramedics said she went to fetch papers from the house but never came back.

The cellphone, which was used for work purposes, was sitting on the ambulance console. When paramedics arrived at the hospital, they realized the device was missing.

Harris County deputies discovered the phone with Jeremy Sharp, 25, a few weeks later. Officials identified Sharp as Hubbard's boyfriend. Deputies said the phone was completely damaged.

Sharp was arrested and charged with theft. It was his third offense. He is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 22 and his bond is set at $15,000.

Hubbard is on the run and also facing theft charges. She already has two open warrants for her arrest.

Anyone with information leading to Hubbard's location is asked to call the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office at 713-274-1654.
