Officials said when the deputy arrived, he spotted the suspect leaving in a white, four-door sedan.

In the chaos, officials said the suspect slammed into a truck that was parked down the street as he tried to get away.

Sheriff's Office officials said at some point, the suspect got out of his car and took off on foot into a wooded area.

The deputy got out too and chased him down. Officials said that's when the two got into some sort of fight.

During the fight, the suspect ended up with a bullet to either his stomach or chest, investigators said.

The suspect was rushed to the hospital where he underwent surgery. Officials said he's expected to be okay.

So far, the suspect's name hasn't been released.
