Off-duty officer shoots at copper theft suspect

Deputies are searching for suspect

HOUSTON – The Harris County Sheriff's Office is investigating after an officer fired his weapon at a suspect in northwest Harris County.

It happened at the Stone Lee Apartment complex at 16000 Ella Boulevard at around 2 a.m. on Friday.

According to investigators, the off-duty Houston Police Department officer was working security at the complex when he was forced to shoot at a suspect who opened fire at him first.

Deputies said the officer found a man trying to steal copper from one of the buildings and seconds later, the suspect aimed at the officer and shot off a few rounds.

The suspect managed to get away on foot. It is not known if he was hit.

The officer was not injured.
