Needville teen attacked by shark goes home

The 15-year-old was attacked by a shark at Surfside Beach in June

A Needville teenager who was attacked by a shark at Surfside Beach has gone home for the first time after more than a month in the hospital.

Fifteen-year old Garrett Sebesta was attacked by a shark on June 17.

"Something just clamps down on my leg and starts thrashing me around," Sebesta said.

Sebesta suffered injuries to both his arm and leg. He was immediately transported by LifeFlight to Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center.

Sebesta underwent a series of surgeries and spent six days in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. On July 2, he was transferred to HealthBridge Children's Hospital in west Houston.

The Needville teen was released from HealthBridge Children's Hospital on Wednesday.

Sebesta's family and friends are hosting a fundraiser on Saturday, Aug. 17. It's a livestock show at the Needville youth fair at 13631 SH 36 in Needville, Texas. Check in starts at 4 p.m.

In addition to the livestock show, there will be barbecue plates available, live and silent auctions and live music.
