Video shows men throwing punches, chairs in Coney Island fight that led to shooting in Detroit

19-year-old American Coney Island employee shot

DETROIT – Surveillance video inside an American Coney Island restaurant in Detroit shows a fight between a group of men and employees that led to one of the workers being shot.

Police said a group of men walked into the restaurant in the 100 block of W. Lafayette Boulevard around 3:15 a.m. and started assaulting a group of women.

A 19-year-old worker and other employees tried to stop the men, and a fight broke out. Video shows an employee being punched on the counter and several men throwing chairs across the restaurant.

During the fight, an armed man walked into the restaurant. When his group started to leave, he pulled out a gun and shot the 19-year-old employee.

The employee received a non-life-threatening injury.

Police describe the shooter as a 21- to 25-year-old black man. He was wearing a black and red ball cap, a red polo shirt, blue jeans, and black and white gym shoes.

The people accompanying the shooter in the video are also wanted for questioning in the case. Police said they are considered persons of interest.
