According to Pasadena police, an officer spotted a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the 1100 block of Shaver and pulled the vehicle over.

Police said the girl told the officer she was 11 years old and that Lopez had given her permission to pick up her 10-year-old brother from the 200 block of Shaver and drive him home to the 1900 block of Lillian.

That's a distance of more than 2.3 miles, according to Google Maps.

When the officer asked the girl if she had driven a car before, she said it was her first time driving without an adult in the car, according to police.

The officer took the children home.

Police said Lopez admitted to allowing her daughter to drive the car by herself.

Bond was set at $3,000.
